Public school curricula typically include core subjects. The Kansas Department of Education provide curricular standards as guidelines school districts can use to develop their curriculum. The local school board has prior approval of the curriculum.

Consideration of controversial issues has a legitimate place in instruction. For purposes of this policy, a controversial issue means anything that is the subject of intense public argument, disagreement, or disapproval.
